COMMUNITY groups and organisations are being urged to make a 'pledge' in order to make a difference.

The Community Green Pledges initiative has been launched by Conwy and Denbighshire Public Services Board (PSB).

The scheme consists of five green pledges that community groups and organisations can sign up to reduce their impact on the environment.

Each pledge includes suggestions, possible opportunity for funds and guidance on things which can make a difference.

Positive contributions will be recognised by a bronze, silver, gold or platinum award.

The Chair of the Conwy and Denbighshire PSB, Sian Williams from Natural Resources Wales said: "It’s easy to feel you can’t make a difference to help the environment – but you can.

"Each of us is an important part of the bigger picture and through our combined efforts, we can make a difference together."

Pledges have been grouped into five key areas: Community and Building facilities; Transport; Reduce, Reuse and Recycle; Local and ethical Produce and Environment and Nature.

Residents can also add their own pledges.

To part, groups can choose the green changes they want to work towards, put their plan into action, complete a form to say what has been carried out and in turn, a certificate will be sent out as an acknowledgement of the achievement.

A spokesperson for the PSB added: "Climate Change is the defining issue of our time and the biggest threat to our well-being - globally and locally. We need to take drastic action now to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and prepare and mitigate for the impacts of global warming, sea level rise and extreme weather events."

This scheme is open to to community groups, sports clubs, villages, towns, charities and social enterprises.
