A WEATHER warning for Storm Ciara has been upgraded to amber.
Weather experts are warning of spells of "very strong wind" today, which they say could cause damage to buildings and major travel disruption.
The Met Office is also warning of possible power cuts and a risk to life from large waves in coastal areas.
It comes as the UK is hit by Storm Ciara, which has made its way across the Atlantic.
The storm, said by experts to be the biggest in Britain for seven years, is expected to bring gusts of 50-60mph across inland areas, with gusts of 80mph or higher in coastal areas.
The Met Office initially issued a yellow warning across the UK, but this has been upgraded to an amber warning for large parts of England, including Wiltshire, Hampshire and Dorset.
A yellow warning remains in place across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
