FOUR people have been arrested after police stopped a car in Southampton and found brown and white powder inside.

Officers proactively stopped the blue Vauxhall Astra on Calmore Drive on Wednesday.

After obtaining grounds to search the vehicle, they found brown and white powder individually wrapped, cash and three mobile phones.

They charged one man and arrested three others on suspicion of drug offences.

Carl Anthony Johnson, aged 26 of Westridge Road, Southampton was charged with possession with intent to supply a class A drug and possession with intent to supply a class B drug.

A 34-year-old woman from Southampton was arrested for possession with intent to supply a class A drug, while a 49-year-old woman from Southampton was arrested for possession with intent to supply a class A drug.

A 43-year-old man from Southampton was also arrested for possession with intent to supply a class A drug.

All three were questioned by officers and then released from police custody, but remain under investigation.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "We continue to ask anyone who suspects drug related activity to be happening in their neighbourhood to contact us.

Johnson will appear before Southampton Crown Court on March 20.
