PART of the roof of a grade two listed hangar at Old Sarum Airfield has “fallen off due to the owner’s continuing neglect”.
In an email to Sam Fox, Wiltshire Council’s director of economic development and planning, and Councillor Richard Clewer, deputy leader and cabinet member for heritage, arts, tourism, housing, climate change and military-civilian integration, Councillor Ian McLennan has called for immediate intervention from the highest level.
In the email, Cllr McLennan added: “We cannot be seen to be ‘contemplating’ any longer. I know these things take time, however, years of neglect are already too long.
“[I have seen pictures of the hanger, and] They tell the story, following the recent bad weather. The roof fell in today.
“I understand that a Twitter posting is receiving support from influential people, worldwide, asking who is going to sort the situation.
“I suggest action at the earliest time....without further delay.
Photos taken today. More storm damage to Hangar 3, almost on an exponential rate now. This is a Grade-II* listed structure, built in 1917. How can it be left in this state? Very sad to share these photos but without awareness, nothing will happen. Please share. #SaveOldSarum pic.twitter.com/vkkJQcjfd4
