IN Salisbury on Sunday, as the church bell of St Thomas's solemnly tolled the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, those who had fallen in two world wars and countless conflicts since were remembered.
Hundreds of people bordered the Guildhall Square and scores more lined the parade route.
Wessex Military Band led veterans and representatives from the emergency services, voluntary organisations and youth organisations to the city's war memorial where the High Sheriff of Wiltshire Peter Pleydell-Bouverie, the Mayor of Salisbury Kevin Cardy, charter trustees and the choir of St Thomas's Church were waiting.
The lone cornet sounded the Last Post, the combined standards of the armed forces were lowered and heads bowed.
Wreaths were laid and prayers were led by Royal British Legion padre Roger Sharpe.
Across the district, similar acts of remembrance took place in Wilton, Durrington, Amesbury, Mere, Tisbury, Downton and Tidworth.
