PEOPLE in the city who cycle welcome the new cycle paths being created and hope for a renaissance of cycling across the city.

Unfortunately the junction at the corner of Archers Road and the Avenue is a potential death trap.

A number of accidents have been reported to Southampton City Council cycling officer but this junction is still in use.

Did the council decide that a wait and see approach would work, and that people would learn how to negotiate this junction if they left it alone?

Two friends who use bicycles have had accidents at this junction. I use this route most days going into town from Portswood and have seen cars queuing on the cycle way.

They did not like my request for them not to wait on the cycle way.

Surely Archers Road could be made a dead end, as has been done with other roads in the city?
