A SALISBURY couple have had nearly £300 drawn from their bank account following purchases made in Hungary by someone using a clone of their credit card.

Mark and Belinda Leonard believe the clone was made when Belinda used their joint account card to obtain money from an automatic cash machine at a city supermarket.

No money came out and the machine swallowed the card, so Belinda banged on the machine. This released the card and, after retrieving it, Belinda inserted it again and this time it dispensed the cash she wanted.

But a month later she and Mark received a bank statement informing them of purchases totalling £287.41 made on their card in Budapest.

"We can only think someone must have inserted some kind of device in the cash machine here in Salisbury and that it cloned our card on the first occasion Belinda put it into the machine. Then the device was probably dislodged when Belinda banged on the machine to get the card back."
