BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club had a great night on Friday evening as they received four awards.

The Ladies first team won the Senior Team title and then Lisa Scarborough took the honours for the professional coach.

First team captain Catriona Bausor then scooped the Basingstoke Gazette Sports Personalty award.

The hockey club completed a superb evening by winning the final award of the night, taking the Club of Year accolade for the first time in their history.

After winning their fourth award of the evening Basingstoke Hockey Club president Miranda Smith said: “I am truly ecstatic about what has happened this evening.

“You work so hard and you dream for nights like this.

She added: “It has been 10 years of hard work, but with our second pitch it is all coming together.

“We have a great bunch of members, a great committee and some super volunteers and the Club of the Year award is for everyone at the club and it is nice to be recognised.”

The club now boasts one of only two teams in the town to play at the national level, after the Ladies first team won promotion last season.

This achievement was rightful acknowledged with the Ladies taking the senior team trophy.

This was after their third promotion in four years.

Club captain Bausor said: “I was shocked that we won this and I felt very humble to receive this award for the girls.

“It has been a very memorable six year journey to get where we are today.”

Fellow first team player Clare Griffiths, who was nominated in the Senior Ladies category, said: “We have a really good coach in Lala (Lisa Scarborough) and captain in Catriona.

“Our success is built around a great team spirit and everyone works for each other.”

Following hot on heels of the team winning the team award, their coach Lisa Scarborough was honoured as she picked up the Professional Coach of the Year award.

Lisa said: “I have played at three other clubs, but I am really enjoying my time in Basingstoke.

“It is a great club, run by a super committee and it is really great to have coached the ladies into the national league.

“This is putting the club on the map and these girls are proving to be an inspiration to other members, they are the flagship for the club.

“We have a big squad of 20 players, so that everyone gets a taste of playing in the first team and being involved.”
