POLICE are appealing for witnesses after thefts from three lorries along the A303 corridor.

The articulated lorries were targeted while parked in laybys outside Amesbury, Chicklade, near Tisbury and Mere.

A variety of goods, including fridges, fridge-freezers and clothing, were stolen from the vehicles while the drivers slept.

All three lorries were curtain-sided vehicles and raiders entered them by cutting open the sides and then taking pallets and large items.

The size of some of the items stolen indicates the offenders may be using another lorry or truck to transport them.

Detective Inspector Mark Power, head of the Wiltshire police crime management unit, said: "Police have placed signs warning of these thefts in laybys along the A303 and have increased evening patrols of the areas.

"During previous years this type of crime has increased during the run up to Christmas and we are urging lorry drivers to take extra precautions when they park-up overnight and to be alert to the risk of theft."

Anyone with any information which may help in the investigation of these thefts can call Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000, or to give information anonymously call the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
