WORLD class tumbler Kaitlin Lafferty won the Senior Ladies award.

Last year, Kaitlin moved up to the seniors and was selected as the youngest member of a four strong senior women’s team for the World Championships in Tokyo last November. This is the same venue which will be used for the Olympics this year.

The Great Britain team won the team gold which has not been done by Team GB for 16 years.

The18-year-old from Kempshott said: “Last year it was a great year for me as moving up to seniors I did not know what was going to happen.

“Being part of a great team and winning gold at the Worlds in a sport which for so long has been dominated by China, was a great feeling.”

The trainee accountant said: “I have European trials this month and I am hoping to go to Sweden and the British Champs in July. There is no Worlds this year because it is an Olympic year.”

Kickboxer Elizabeth Ferioli took the runner-up award and despite giving birth in 2019, Liz achieved great results and is ranked world number one for ladies vets over 65kg light contact and third in the world in the ladies vets under 65kg light contact category.

Olympic hopeful fencer Leonora Mackinnon completed the top three.

Leonora started the year with an ankle injury, missing half of the year.

Since her full recovery she achieved a career best result of sixth at the Tallinn World Cup and is now in pole position for qualifying for the 2020 Olympics to compete for Canada.

l Taekwondo’s Coleen Reilly won the Volunteer Coach award for her continued work at both national and international levels with both able-bodied and para athletes winning medals.

She has also been able to focus on coaching the club’s senior grades, working with them to successfully achieve their black belts and further develop them in becoming coaching assistants.
