TERRY Brigdale was very surprised to pick up the Senior Mens crown.

The 22-year-old from Alton, is part of the very successful Basingstoke’s Su-Ha-Ri Karate School. Terry said: “I am very surprise to won this award with the calibre I was up again.

“Last year I had a great year with success in the EKF and WIKF Global Cups.”

His medal tally of three golds and bronze from the these two events and this helped him to become the highest scoring fighter in the whole of England.

Terry is the main senior on the team, so everyone looks to him and he is a great role model.

He always takes time to help the junior members of the squad by assisting in training sessions and coaching at competitions.

Looking to the year ahead Terry added: “I am graduating from university this year, but I am still hoping to compete as much as I can and my big aim is the European Championships.

Kickboxer Rob Payne was second in this category.

It capped a great 2019 which saw him selected for the WAKO Great Britain squad to compete in the World Championships in Turkey where he won the gold.

He is the current WAKO European and British champion in the under 64 kg division.

Third place went to Bradley Sutton, who was not present at the evening.

The modern pentathlon star is part of the Tokyo Olympic squad as a training partner for the senior men’s team, with his own target being the Paris 2024 Olympics. Bradley is a European relay medallist and World Championship finalist.

TERRY Wegg is definitely an unsung hero of Basingstoke Mid Hants Athletic Club and Hook Runners and has been recognised this year as he won the Senior Volunteer award.

The 53-year-old from Hook is champion of grass roots road running and athletics and who goes above and beyond.

Wegg said: “I just love what I do and is nice to pick up this award.”
