The number of coronavirus cases in the UK is continuing to rise as almost 600 people are now confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.

As of 9am today (March 12), a total of 29,764 people have been tested: 29,174 negative and 590 positive.

Six of them are from Wiltshire. The first three cases caught the virus following a trip to northern Italy. Wiltshire Council confirmed last Friday that three trio are self-isolating at home.

Of the cases confirmed, two are from Swindon.

Swindon Borough Council said one of them had recently returned from northern Italy while the second person tested positive after coming back from Thailand.

In neighbouring Hampshire, the number of confirmed cases has increased to ten, up from just two on Saturday.

They include a student from Winchester, two Lavazza employees from Basingstoke and a healthcare professional from University Hospital Southampton.

They and the patients and staff that came in contact with them are now self-isolating.

The number of those in the UK who have died from the virus has also risen to 10.
