Cadets with the Army Cadet Force’s Horndean Detachment were awarded a prestigious prize as the ‘Best Royal Signals Detachment' at Salisbury Cathedral during the Royal Signals 100 Service of Celebration.
In addition, the detachment now has a new association with Bulford based 3 (UK) Div Signal Regiment, they will be providing support to the unit when required, allowing soldiers to support the wider Royal Signals family.
Regimental Sergeant Major Benjamin Wildman, 3 (UK) Div Sig Regt said:
“I am very proud of this new affiliation. Horndean are a great detachment and the enthusiasm displayed by the cadets is quite remarkable. I have no doubt we can learn a lot from their commitment and dedication.”
TOP APPRENTICE
Last Week the Army Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony took place at Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, hosted by Lt Gen Tyrone Urch, GOC Home Command.
Lance Corporal Lucy-Anne Leo, a Technical Electrician from Tidworth based 5 Armoured Company, 3rd Armoured Close Support Battalion REME, was announced as the Army Advanced Apprentice of the Year.
Lance Corporal Leo is the REME Apprentice of the Year and, as such, represented the Corps in the Army competition, she was selected from a field of 11 pan-army entrants.
Her citation includes “She demonstrates a higher level of technical understanding and a far greater drive than would normally be expected of such a junior tradesperson”.
FITTING FAREWELL
Captain Bruce Yell was presented with his Iron Fist and Long Service and Good Conduct medal by the Commander of 20 Brigade, Brigadier Dom Biddick on his last day with the Brigade and the Army. The Commander thanked him for his service and wished him and his family the very best for the future.
JOB DONE
The Queen's Royal Hussars Battlegroup were presented with their Estonian medals as they begin preparations to leave Tapa camp. Over the last few months, they have lived and worked with Estonian, French and Danish allies as part of Operation Cabrit, the operational deployment to Eastern Europe as part of NATO's Enhanced Forward Presence
They will be replaced by the First Fusiliers Battlegroup later in the month.
