KEVIN Daley has been elected as the new councillor to serve the Till and Wylye Valley constituency.

The by-election for the seat on Wiltshire Council took place on Tuesday, March 10.

Mr Daley, standing for the Conservatives, received 637 votes while Lib Dem Harry Ashcroft got 623 and Labours Timothy Treslove received 24.

Conservative Darren Henry was councillor for Till and Wylye Valley, but due to his election as Member of Parliament for Broxtowe in Nottinghamshire, he resigned from his post.

Newly elected, Councillor Daley said: “I was absolutely delighted to be elected to Wiltshire Council at the Till and Wylye Valley by-election. It was an extremely close race and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me and came out to campaign – it shows that every vote really does matter. I will be working hard to represent you in Trowbridge and make sure that we protect the rural character of our villages and reduce traffic.”

The voting turnout was 35.55 per cent.

Salisbury and south Wiltshire MP John Glen added: “I would like to congratulate Kevin Daley on running a great campaign and becoming the new Conservative councillor for Till and Wylye Valley. It was a fantastic week for local residents as the A303 Stonehenge Tunnel was given the green light by the Chancellor the day after the by-election. I will be working closely with Kevin and Wiltshire Council to make sure the benefits of the scheme are felt in nearby villages.”
