BURGATE sixth form student Macy Biss came second in the prestigious ARTiculation national final.
The final took place at Clare College, Cambridge on Friday. ARTiculation, organised by the Roche Court Educational Trust, encourages young people to engage with, think and speak about visual arts and design.
She spoke about photographer Cindy Sherman, making a link between philosophical notions of truth and the visual imprint artists choose to make about who they think they are. Adjudicator, Sir Nicholas Serota, chair of Arts Council England, praised Macy’s impressive contextualisation and conviction in her presentation.
Teacher Sandi Robertson said: “I’m delighted Macy’s work has given her real success; her ideas about identity are incredibly thought-provoking. We are all really proud of her wonderful achievement.”
