A round-up of cases from Salisbury Magistrates Court:

JOE GALLAGHER, aged 41, of Fotherby Crescent, Salisbury, indicated a plea of guilty to stealing food and alcohol. He stole items to the value of £55 from the BP garage on Downton Road, Salisbury, on September 25 last year. He was fined £60 and was ordered to pay compensation of £55 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £32.

HAYLEY BROWNE, aged 36, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to a string of thefts in Salisbury on January 19. The defendant stole £23 worth of product from Topshop, £95 worth of product from Marks and Spencer and £74.99 worth of product from Tresspass. Browne indicated a plea of guilty to possessing a class-C drug, and assaulting a police officer in Salisbury and a detention officer in Melksham, also on January 19. She was ordered to pay compensation of £100, a surcharge to fund victim services of £90 and costs of £85. She was also ordered to participate in an accredited programme for 30 days and attend the instructed rehabilitation appointments or activities.

CAMERON MACKAY, aged 32, of Rollestone Street, Salisbury, pleaded guilty to assaulting a woman by beating in Salisbury on January 20. He was ordered to pay compensation of £50, a surcharge to fund victim services of £90 and costs of £85. Mackay was also ordered to attend the instructed rehabilitation appointments or activities.

ALFIE SMITH, aged 36, of High Street, Netheravon, indicated a plea of guilty to assaulting a woman and pleaded guilty to riding a bike dangerously, both in Devizes on July 29 last year. A community order was already made on July 31, when Smith was found guilty of stealing goods from stores in Devizes on July 29 and May 22, including Marks and Spencer, Poundland, Sainsbury’s and Iceland, totalling around £400. Smith was ordered to pay compensation of £600, a surcharge to fund victim services of £90 and costs of £85. The original community order was revoked, and Smith was ordered to attend the instructed rehabilitation appointments or activities.

NICHOLAS THORNBOROUGH, aged 24, of Nicolson Vale, Longhedge, pleaded guilty to driving while exceeding the legal alcohol limit. On January 25 he was driving an Audi A1 along Mill Road, Salisbury, with 51 microgrammes of alcohol in every 100 millilitres of breath. He was fined £461 and was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £46 and costs of £85. The defendant was also disqualified from holding a driving licence for 12 months.

CHRISTOPHER TRUEMAN, aged 32, of Caxton Close, Swindon, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention in Salisbury, causing injury to two other people. The incident happened on August 16 last year, when Trueman was the driver of a Vauxhall Astra on The Avenue. Trueman failed to report the happenings to a police station or constable within 24 hours. He was fined £200 in total, and was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £32 and costs of £85. His driving record was endorsed with six points.

JOSHUA SIMPKINS, aged 26, of Barnard Street, Salisbury, was committed to prison for 18 weeks following a series of thefts in Salisbury between October 2019 and the end of January 2020. He indicated a plea of guilty to stealing from Boots, Lidl and Sainsbury’s. On September 22 last year Simpkins stole the contents of a women’s handbag in Salisbury, and on the same day committed fraud by making payments under false representation. He was also ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £121.

GEORGE RAMPTON, aged 33, of Exeter Street, Salisbury, was found guilty of using a car without the correct policy of insurance. On September 9 last year Rampton used the Seat Ibiza along Downton Road, Salisbury. He was fined £120 and was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £32 and costs of £85. He was also disqualified from holding a driving license for six months.

TIMOTHY WEBBER, aged 51, of Grenadier Close, Warminster, was found guilty of driving without due care and attention in Salisbury. On June17 last year he was driving a Citroen Relay along Lower Road. He was also found guilty of using the car without the correct policy of insurance. Webber was fined £660 and was ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £66 and costs of £85. He was also disqualified from holding a driving license for eight months.

Case heard at Swindon Magistrates Court:

TOMMY DEWINTER MUDIE, aged 18, of no fixed abode in Wilton, Salisbury, pleaded guilty to beating a woman in Wilton on December 20 last year. He also failed to surrender to custody at Salisbury Magistrates Court on February 7, after being released on bail on January 1. The defendant’s time spent in custody was considered time served for the offence. He was fined a total of £80.
