THE Wessex Heritage Trust is providing a free “reminiscence service” for people living with dementia across Hampshire and East Dorset.
It has been running the Memory Box Project since 2016. Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, and run by four members of staff, the service is delivered in eight hospital settings, care homes, day centres and other organised groups across the areas.
Sessions are normally staff or volunteer led, but due to COVID-19 the Trust has temporarily changed the structure of its project to accommodate as many care settings and people living at home, who would still like support surrounding reminiscence for people living with dementia.
It has created a weekly themed activity pack, which contains a selection of reminiscence activities created by the Memory Box Project team.
A typical pack may contain a reminiscence guide with pictures and added materials, word games, colourings, match up games, poetry and a narrated PowerPoint, all with a strong reminiscence led structure prompting conversations and interactions between people living with dementia, carers and families.
These are all available for download at wessexheritagetrust.org/downloads
Alternatively, there is a mailing list where the packs can be sent direct. For more information email heather@wessexheritagetrust.org
The team have also set up a YouTube channel to stream weekly sessions, go to https://bit.ly/3av9BIe
