A PRODUCTION that was due to be performed at Salisbury Playhouse is now being streamed online.

Maya Arad Yasur’s prize-winning play Amsterdam, directed by Matthew Xia, is available for free from March 27 for a limited time through Orange Theatre on Screen.

A violinist living in her trendy canal-side Amsterdam apartment is nine months pregnant. One day a mysterious unpaid gas bill from 1944 arrives.

It awakens unsettling feelings of collective identity, foreignness and alienation. Stories of a devastating past are reconstructed to try and make sense of the present.

This co-production with Actors Touring Company and Theatre Royal Plymouth was filmed live at the Orange Theatre last autumn and had just commenced a national tour, which has had to be cancelled.

The capture was commissioned by The Space, supported by Arts Council England and produced by the Roundhouse.

By relaunching the screening, the producers aim to reach the thousands of audiences across the country who have missed out on the live theatre experience due to Covid-19.

Performances and activities at Salisbury Playhouse and Arts Centre have been cancelled to the end of July and the venues remain closed. This year’s Salisbury International Arts Festival 2020 has also been cancelled.

Amsterdam was due to run in The Salberg at Salisbury Playhouse.
