THE suspect in a horrific machete attack outside a McDonald’s restaurant has denied charges over the incident.

A 24-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was assaulted outside the fast food chain’s branch at the junction of Winwick Road and Folly Lane shortly before 3.30am on Saturday, March 7.

Cheshire Police confirmed that the attacker produced a ‘large knife’ from down his trousers before inflicting ‘significant’ injuries with the weapon.

The Warrington Guardian understands that a 14-inch machete was used in the incident, and that the victim had to undergo a 10-hour operation at Whiston Hospital in order to save one of his hands.

Jordan Hughes, of Calgarth Avenue in Bewsey, was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article in a public place relation to the incident.

Appearing before Liverpool Crown Court via video link to HMP Altcourse this afternoon, Monday, he pleaded not guilty to both counts.

A trial date has not yet been set due to the ongoing situation with the coronavirus pandemic, but the 22-year-old is due to appear back before the court in June.

This incident was one of two stabbings reported on the A49 within hours over the course of the same night.
