A LOCAL business has been playing its part to support the community, by distributing free hot drinks to people queuing for prescriptions.

After spotting 30 to 40 people lining up outside Boots, The Amesbury Chippy on Flower Lane decided to lend a helping hand by providing free tea and coffee and access to the toilet to everyone in the queue.

Manager Tracey Eason said: “We’ve been doing it for more than two weeks, as soon as it started.

“I saw these people queuing all the way past the shop and at first I couldn’t understand what was going on. When someone said they had been there for over an hour immediately I thought [that] someone may need the toilet or a drink, it was just a natural thing to do and people do appreciate being asked if they need the toilet.

“We have put chairs outside so people can sit down, we’re just doing what we can to help out.”

Many took to Facebook to thank the chippy for the “amazing” gesture.
