MOTORISTS are being urged to slow down after 31 vehicles were stopped by police for travelling at excess speeds in Salisbury.

Police say the vehicles were stopped this week in various locations including Downton Road and Castle Road.

Sergeant Dave Whitby from Salisbury Community Policing Team 5 said: "We have not set out to prosecute motorists, but we are hoping to slow people down and avoid accidents. These were daytime checks when there were lots of other vehicles on the roads, along with cyclists, runners and people stepping off pavements when passing other pedestrians to ensure social distance.

"Many of the motorists reported or given advice should know better but I’d like to give a special mention to the driver who was stopped speeding and let the officers know that he found my last post about people travelling at excess speed quite entertaining. I think you may have missed the point."

Speeds ranged from drivers travelling just over the specified speed limit to a motorist doing 62 mph and another travelling at 56mph. Another four were travelling in the high 40 mph range.
