THE community is being asked to help Salisbury resident Thomas Dwyer celebrate his 100th birthday.

He is a resident at Tower House Residential Home in Manor Road and due to the Covid-19 restrictions his family are unable to visit him to celebrate the milestone birthday on Monday (May 4).

Now the home is asking Salisbury Journal readers to help Thomas celebrate his special day by sending and making cards.

Thomas came to Salisbury from the West Coast of Ireland in 1943 and trained at the Old Manor Hospital on Wilton Road.

He qualified as a psychiatric nurse and worked at the hospital for almost 40 years, colleagues describe him as a "very smartly dressed gentle man" with a "lively mind and a very dry sense of humour".

Cards can be sent to Tower House Residential Home, 43 Manor Road, Salisbury, SP1 1JT.
