THE number of people who have died after contracting Covid-19 in different parts of Salisbury and the surrounding area has been revealed.

In a comprehensive data release, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) examined more than 20,000 virus deaths registered in England and Wales from March 1 to April 17.

In this period across Salisbury, the data found that 12 people from the city had died as a result of the virus.

Combined with the figures from the rest of south Wiltshire, this number grows to 26.

In the northern part of the New Forest, around Fordingbridge and Ringwood, nine people fell victim to Covid-19.

The ONS has analysed details of the 20,283 deaths that occurred in England and Wales between March 1 and April 17, and which were registered by April 18, where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate as the underlying cause of death or a contributory factor.
