A RINGWOOD man who spat at a police officer during the coronavirus pandemic has been jailed.
Harry Alex Callaway, 20, spat at the on-duty officer on March 28 in Ringwood.
The court heard how the offence was serious due to the current climate.
Appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court, he pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting an emergency worker.
Callaway, of Wessex Estate, Ringwood, was jailed for 18 weeks and fined £300 compensation.
He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £122 and court costs of £100.
