POLICE officers investigated alleged illegal activity in the Cholderton area this week, involving scrap metal and stolen vehicles.

On Thursday at around midday Wiltshire Police, alongside staff from Wiltshire Council and the Environment Agency, carried out searches and checks on a premises using the Section 8 warrant.

Currently no criminal offences have been identified in this area, however the council will be investigating further breaches of environmental health and planning laws.

Inspector Liz Coles said that the force will continue working with partners to "clampdown on rural crime in our county".

She said: "We continue to work with the local community to identify any illegal activity in this area and would encourage anyone to report anything suspicious to us via 101 or our website."

Councillor Bridget Wayman, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for highways, added: “Officers from our Environmental Enforcement and Planning Enforcement Teams conducted a joint operation with the Environment Agency and police partners to investigate alleged scrap metal, waste and planning offences.

"This operation was intelligence led and the investigation continues.”
