SALISBURY'S tip had to shut early yesterday as a result of long queues.

The household recycling centre (HRC) on Churchfield's Industrial Estate reopened for the first time since the lockdown came in on Monday, attracting queues of up to two hours.

The facility was open again yesterday from 5.30pm but due to the number of vehicles lined up outside, it was forced to close earlier than planned.

Wiltshire Council has been urging residents to only visit tips if their waste cannot be stored safely at home.

As sites in Salisbury and Amesbury are "extremely busy" members of the public have been warned to expect delays.

The council is currently operating a postcode entry system to manage the number of people in its HRCs at any one time.
