A WILTSHIRE company has donated 3,000 hand sanitisers to local schools as they prepare for the summer term.

It comes after St Joseph's in Laverstock also helped provide free visors for all schools after crowd-funding £40,000.

Meiyume,is providing the kit and Wiltshire Council’s passenger transport unit is "organising the logistics" so all schools will have them in the summer term.

The donation is part of wider preparations including Wiltshire Council co-ordinating an effort for schools to order PPE packs.

Councillor Pauline Church, Cabinet Member for Children, Education and Skills said: “Schools are busy making preparations and we have been working closely with them so they have the guidance, support and items they need as we move forward.

“This very generous offer from Meiyume is a fine example of how our local companies are responding to the current situation right in the heart of our communities. I also applaud the efforts of schools such as St Josephs who are using innovations and carrying out some great work to help their peers. We really are fortunate to have such community spirit in Wiltshire.”

Kate Thorne, Senior Product Manager at Meiyume said: “We have produced 20,000 hand sanitisers to help the local community including hospices and hospitals. Many of us have school age children and it’s great to give back in these difficult times and ease the transition back into school.”

Kevin McGuinness, Deputy Headteacher at Saint Joseph’s Catholic School said: “We have been extremely busy and so far 35,000 visors have been despatched from our school labs across the country with 12,000 more on order. We are providing them free to Wiltshire schools who can order them on our website. We’ve built a team of 20 cutting sites across four counties with teams of volunteer drivers. It’s been a great experience for all involved.”
