PLANS have been submitted to build 12 two-bedroom flats in Amesbury.

If approved, the flats would be built on land adjacent to the Hideaway Garage on London Road, and would include covered ground floor parking.

The application has been resubmitted after permission was granted in 2015, subsequent to a series of conditions being met.

In the newly submitted planning statement it says: “In terms of the proposed alterations these are minor external alterations to the approved scheme to improve matters of safety and quality of the approved apartments and to address minor matters raised during construction.”

The statement adds: “Perhaps the most visual change proposed in this application, when compared to the approved scheme, is the inclusion of some solar panels to parts of the roof which would avoid any particular harm to the visual amenities of the area and increase the overall sustainability of the scheme through harnessing natural power sources.”

The amendments do not make any change to the approved housing numbers or the mix of units as approved before.

The approved sewer and drainage drawings as approved previously, proposing a simplified drainage scheme to that depicted in the planning drawings, which has received technical approval from Wessex Water. It also involves “one less excursion into the highway (London Rd) to effect a foul water connection and is a safer and easier scheme to construct with less potential effect on the general public during the construction phase”.

At the time, Amesbury Town councillors felt the plans would be an “over-development” of the site, and that there were”over-looking issues on the rear gardens of the houses behind the development”.
