A CENTENARIAN did not let Covid-19 halt her birthday celebrations, as she turned 100-years-old with music, presents and special guests.
Grace Berwick, who lives at the Hardy Lodge development in Shaftesbury, was born on May 28, 1920, and was able to celebrate the latest milestone last Thursday with friends and family.
Grace’s children, Colin and Marilyn, arranged for the mayor of Shaftesbury Tim Cook and town crier Cliff Skey to visit the lodge to pay tribute to Grace, as well as two members of the Shaftesbury Town Silver Band, who played Happy Birthday, Congratulations and Amazing Grace, all from a safe social distance.
Lodge manager Sharon Horsman said: “There were so many flowers, chocolates and pressies from all the other apartment owners I couldn’t get them all on the table.
“I wish we could have had a big party to celebrate, but of course this sadly couldn’t be the case. However, it was nice to mark the occasion and celebrate in a safe and socially distanced way, and Grace thoroughly enjoyed herself.”
