REGULARS at the South Western public house in Tisbury have given a £3,835.89 boost to the Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal.

The money has been donated to the hospital's Pembroke Unit, whose consultant haematologist, Dr Tamara Everington, received the cheque from Jeremy Smith, who made the presentation of behalf of pub landlady, Pat Ost.

Customers and staff at the South Western held three charity events during the summer - a golf tournament, clothes sale and summer ball - to raise money for the unit.

And having recently been treated at Salisbury Hospital for non-Hodginkinson's Lymphoma, colon and thyroid cancer, Jeremy was delighted to hand over the cheque on behalf of the landlady, who, unfortunately, was unable to attend the presentation.

A spokesman for the pub said: "The money which was raised, and contributions made by local businesses, are a testament to the very strong and supportive community which thrives and grows in Tisbury.

"Our thanks go out to all those who worked so hard, contributed their time and made each event such a success.

These include Pat Ost and her daughters, Kerry, Lara and Debbie, along with a host of unnamed people who toiled hard in the background.

"Tisbury folk are very happy to give something back to the cancer care staff at the Pembroke Unit as thanks for their excellent services to our rural community. The money will go towards helping cancer patients being treated at the unit."
