ROADS across the north Dorset area are being repaired and refreshed from tomorrow, under the Dorset Highways annual summer road repair programme.

As part of the roadworks two projects are being carried out - the sealing of roads against water damage and restoring skid resistance.

Roads being 'surface dressed' include Station Road in Stalbridge, Rixon Hill on the Manston Road in Sturminster Newton and Old Blandford Road in Cann Common.

'Micro-asphalt sites', where a layer of new material is laid over the top of the existing surface, include Duck Street in Child Okeford and Cann Common to White Pitt Lane.

Road closures will typically be in place from 9.30am to 3.30pm, and diversion routes will be signposted.

When the roads reopen there will be a temporary 20mph speed limit in force, to ensure safety and help the 'bedding-in' process on road surfaces.

Councillor Ray Bryan, Dorset Council portfolio holder for highways, travel and environment, has asked members of the public to be "patient" and "mindful of local roads becoming busier".

He added: “We know many drivers and motorcyclists do not like this surface treatment, however, it is successfully used across the country.

"We will continue to use surface treatments based on a road’s individual condition – and the two treatments we’re using this summer both serve their purpose in the maintenance lifecycle of our roads.”
