"SEVERAL" people in Salisbury have been stopped and searched as part of an operation to target drug users.

Salisbury Community Policing Team was out and about yesterday to carry out foot patrols to combat illegal drug use and anti-social behaviour in the city centre.

During the operation, a 35-year-old local man was stopped and searched in Culver Street car park.

A small amount of Class A drugs was found on him and he has been invited in for interview.

Several people in the city centre were also stopped and searched on suspicion of carrying drugs and others were warned about drinking alcohol in contravention of the Public Spaces Protection Order which is in force throughout the city.

Sgt David Whitby said: "As part of our commitment to the people of Salisbury we are carrying out a number of targeted operations like this.

"We are proud of our city and take any reports of illegal drug taking and anti-social behaviour seriously.

"It's a small number of individuals who try and spoil it for the rest of us and that won't be tolerated.

"If you have any concerns about drug use in the area or anti-social drinking please help us by reporting your concerns.

"Even if you think the information you have may be very minor, it is always worth reporting as it could be the missing piece in a bigger jigsaw which could help us disrupt a major drug supply chain or it may help us identify a vulnerable person who may be being exploited."

To report drug dealing or any suspicious behaviour call 101 or visit www.wiltshire.police.uk.

You can also report it anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
