THOMAS the cat, the ginger moggy based at Salisbury District Hospital, has found a new home.

On Monday, police appealed to members of the public to help them reunite Thomas with his owners or find him a new home.

Following the appeal, someone has now come forward to adopt him.

In a Facebook post, a spokesperson from Wiltshire Police said: "For those of you asking for an update on lovely Thomas the cat, who has been keeping officers, council staff and hospital workers company during the Covid-19 pandemic at Salisbury District Hospital…. we are pleased to report that Thomas is now in the care of Cat Watch Wiltshire who will ensure he is neutered and given a full health check by a local vet.

"He will then be rehomed to one of the caring people who offered to rehome him following our initial appeal, once the relevant checks have been done.

"Thomas was picked up on Friday by the charity and we are told he was ‘super chilled’ going in the carrier and had a big send off from all those who have been caring for him over the past few challenging months in lockdown."

The ginger cat appeared from the bushes next to the hospital and was "extremely thin and appeared in poor health".

Inspector Lian Dunwell, along with her colleagues from Wiltshire Council, Salisbury District Hospital and the security staff, took the cat under their wing, and named him Thomas.

Although he won't be seen wandering around the hospital anymore, "he is on his way to a loving new home".
