AN INDIAN takeaway in Salisbury has received recognition for providing meals to NHS workers during the pandemic.

The staff at Saffron Indian Takeaway on Wilton Road have been presented with certificates of appreciation by the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Major General Ashley Truluck CB CBE.

During his visit to the takeaway on Wednesday, the High Sheriff thanked staff for their efforts and also praised the work of UK Curry Connect (UKCC) and charity Plastic Pollution Awareness & Action Projects (PPAAP).

In January, UKCC and PPAAP worked with Saffron Indian Takeaway and the Federation of Small Businesses to organise a ‘Curry & Conversation’ workshop in Salisbury to raise awareness of plastic pollution in the catering community.

During lockdown, the two bodies supported catering businesses to help feed NHS workers and vulnerable residents within the community.

On the day of his visit, the High Sheriff was treated to a live cooking demonstration and a meal.

The team at Saffron say they were "very honoured" to receive the recognition and would like to thank their customers for their support during these unprecedented times.
