And Entry, for a limited period, will be via donation.

A statement on Salisbury Museum's website said: "Salisbury Museum is going to open to the public on Saturday 1 August. Our opening hours for the first month will be Thursday to Sunday 11am to 4pm. For a limited period we have also abolished our admission fees – entry will be via donation so now is the time to visit.

"In view of Covid-19 we have made a few changes to the visitor experience to ensure we have exactly the right safety precautions and procedures in place – the health of our visitors, staff, volunteers and members is of the utmost importance to us."

There will be a queuing system on the front forecourt when visitors arrive as well as hand sanitisation stations at the entrance and at key points around building.

A signed one-way system will also be in place with separate entry and exit points.

The museum will only be accepting contactless card payments.

Interactive exhibits, where possible, have been removed.

"As an independent charity the current situation continues to put an enormous strain on our finances. Your support is more important than ever, to ensure we can offer the same incredible programme of exhibitions, events and activities in the future," added the museum team in its statement on the website.

"Your continued support in these difficult times, is so very much appreciated. The museum team and trustees look forward to seeing you at the museum soon."

A Justgiving page has been set up for donations.

The museum café will be open Monday to Sunday from 11am until 3pm.
