A 72-year-old man was left with a head injury after he was assaulted and robbed in Brown Street.

Police are investigating the robbery, which took place at around 10.20pm on Thursday, July 23.

The man was assaulted in Brown Street near to the Baptist Church, and his wallet was also stolen during the incident.

He sustained a head injury and was taken to Salisbury District Hospital where he remains receiving treatment.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses, dash cam or CCTV footage which could help their enquiries.

Enquiries conducted following the incident led to a 31-year-old man being located and arrested on suspicion of robbery.

He has since been interviewed and released on conditional bail while further enquiries are carried out.

Det Con Hannah Milburn said: “This was a violent incident which has left a man with a serious head injury. While we have made an arrest, we are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident who may have seen or heard anything suspicious.

"As well as this we’d be interested in hearing from anyone who was driving in the area who may have dash cam footage or anyone with CCTV which could help our investigation.”
