THREE people were rescued by firefighters after a fire broke out at a Salisbury flat during the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two crews from Salisbury alongside firefighters from Wilton, Fordingbridge, Cranborne and St Marys as well as aerial ladder platform from St Marys and a support unit from Devizes were called to the scene.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the fire in a first floor flat on Castle Street at around 2.10am.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "On arrival, firefighters found smoke issuing from a three-storey building and rescued three people from the first-floor window using an extension ladder."

Police and ambulance crews also attended the scene.

The fire was extinguished using hose reel jets and under control by around 3.50pm.
