THE Basingstoke Bison have added even more firepower to their forward line, with the signing of Aidan Doughty from the Bracknell Bees.

He will also add some size to the line-up standing six foot two and was joint top British goal scorer for the Bees last season, as he returned 27 points scoring 15 times for the Herd’s arch rivals.

The 25-year-old hails from the Isle of Wight where he started his career, working right through the junior ranks to the senior team, making his debut for the Raiders in 2012/13.

Doughty then spent the next three years in America playing in the Western States Hockey League for Boulder Junior Bison, Colorado Roughriders and Superior Roughriders returning 75 points from 110 games.

He returned to Britain in the autumn of 2016 to suit up for the Wightlink Raiders again, but after the rink closed and the team folded, he switched to the Solent Devils.

A season at Streatham followed, before two years in Bracknell. In the first he was the club’s top British goal scorer as he hit the net 17 times.

Doughty is the second Bracknell player to move to the Herd during this summer along with Brendan Baird.

Bison player/coach Ashley Tait is excited about his latest signing and said: “Aidan is a big boy who throws the body well. I know first-hand with the hits he has dealt out on me.”

“He plays a very direct style which I feel will be a good fit for us. He is powerful and likes to go to the net and play in the dirty areas using his physicality.”

Tait added: “I think in some games last year we lacked a guy like that. Aidan will make things happen and create space for his team mates.”

In other news, Bison defenceman of last season Adam Jones has moved up to the top tier of the game after signing for the Fife Flyers in the Elite League.

The Herd are set to have more signing news next week.
