HERE is a selection of pictures of the NHS Spitfire fly-past in Salisbury yesterday (Saturday, August 1).

The pictures have been sent in by readers and also by the Journal's camera club members.

The Aircraft Restoration Company aircraft flew-over Salisbury District Hospital yesterday afternoon. The route also passed over Southampton and Bournemouth.

It has launched the NHS Spitfire Project as a way to say thank you to the NHS and those who have helped and inspired others during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Over the next few months the Aircraft Restoration Company is going to be hand writing 80,000 names onto its photo-reconnaissance blue Spitfire PL983 ‘L’.

It is asking members of the public to make nominations, which can be a kind neighbour, family member on the front line, volunteer PPE producer, or anyone who has helped /inspired them through the Covid-19 pandemic.

Donations will be go to NHS Charities Together. To make a nomination go to the JustGiving page.

The crowdfunding page has raised more than £23,000 for the NHS Charities Together appeal.
