Enjoy the sun today, because thunderstorms are on the menu tomorrow.

While the UK has basked in the heatwave this weekend, but that lovely weather has also brought the possibility of thunderstorms on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday according to the Met Office.

The Met Office says areas of thunderstorms are “are increasingly likely to develop over the south of the UK or nearby continent late in the weekend or early next week.”

It warns that the “most intense” thunderstorms could be accompanied by “large hail” triggered by the high temperatures.

Other parts of the country could see “heavy rainfall and frequent lightning” and the storms could occur at any time of the day.

There is a yellow weather warning - meaning to be prepared - for thunderstorms on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday across the whole of the UK.

The warning states: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes and large hail.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to public transport.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and increased chance of accidents.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."
