A DRIVER clocked travelling nearly 60mph failed to stop for officers - leading to a police pursuit.

Police say the driver was spotted driving at 57mph in a 30mph zone on the A338 Downton Road.

A post on the Salisbury Police Facebook page yesterday said: "The driver on being requested to stop by a marked traffic vehicle initially failed to stop and a short pursuit was authorised before the driver turned down a dead end road.

"The driver was arrested and provided an evidential breath reading of 64ug, where the legal limit is 35.

"The driver was also disqualified from driving, held no insurance and as such the vehicle was seized."

Officers from the Specialist Operations Roads Policing Unit were carrying out a patrol in Salisbury and the surrounding villages targeting motoring related issues raised by the community.

Three vehicles were also stopped and dealt with for no insurance/licence offences.

And speed checks were carried out as well as patrols of car parks where antisocial driving had been reported.

The post on Facebook added: "Speed checks were conducted along the ring road following local complaints, thankfully no vehicles were recorded to be exceeding the speed limit."

Another driver also gave a breath reading of more than 180 and was taken into custody.

A vehicle was seized in Wilton and the driver was reported to court. Police say the driver's licence had been revoked.
