The road was closed in both directions to allow recovery to take place.
Update: #TravelDorsetAlert: A31 westbound - Police have handed the closure over to @HighwaysSWEST who are clearing the road following the fuel spill. Judging by delays on surrounding roads, the closure is still in place.

The eastbound side reopened around 9.20am with the westbound carriageway reopening at around 11.30pm.
There were reports of congestion through Longham on the A348 Ringwood Road as traffic diverted around the closure.
Dorset Police said: "Officers would like to thank motorists for their patience while partner agencies are dealing with the incident."
