A LARKHILL woman set up her own fudge making business to help her get through lockdown after suffering a miscarriage.

Katie Jones, who previously lived in Tidworth, launched Oh Fudge Sticks in May of this year.

The idea for the business was sparked after she was given a fudge recipe to try out and started giving it to friends and family as well as neighbours. Oh Fudge Stick was started within a week.

"They all thought it was amazing and I thought maybe I could turn it into a business. On May 11, we opened and we've just been really busy ever since," she said.

The 25-year-old suffered a missed miscarriage in February and found the lockdown was impacting on her mental health and she needed "something to keep her occupied".

She says starting the fudge business did "help a lot". Coming up with new flavours as well as the business aspects of the venture have kept her busy.

She says the response from customers so far has been positive.

"It is so overwhelming I can't explain it," admits Katie, who has had customers not only from Wiltshire but also further afield in Scotland and Devon. She has also been asked to send gift packs of fudge over to Germany.

Her fudge is available to order via the Oh Fudge Sticks Facebook and Instagram pages. It is also being sold at Larkhill Post Office on The Packway and the Little Green Village Shop in Durrington.

"Every week I release four different flavours that are not just your usual flavours. All different flavours to appeal to everyone."

Flavours include mint Aero, chocolate orange, Irish cream and Eton Mess. Katie also does custom requests.

She makes a special fudge, Angel Wings, which is a vanilla rainbow bar. All profits from the sale of the Angle Wings fudge goes to The Miscarriage Association.

"Before I started the business I wanted to do something to raise money and awareness," said Katie. "It gives me a sense of pride and helps other people."

Katie has also set up Miscarriage and Infant loss support group for Tidworth and the surrounding areas to help others. She hopes to be able to resume monthly group meet-ups.
