THE home of designer Jasper Conran near Tisbury is up for grabs.

The apartment, which is within New Wardour Castle, is on the market for £3,950,000.

The principal apartment within the Palladian mansion has more than 23,000 sq ft of accommodation.

This includes most of the state rooms of the castle and the 60ft central rotunda, which has been described as "unsurpassed in any building of the 18th century in England".

There is an entrance hall, three reception rooms, kitchen/breakfast room, dining room, secondary kitchen, office/library, garden room, gym, six bedrooms, six bathrooms, a cellar and around five acres of gardens, with rights over further grounds.

The Grade I listed apartment has views across the estate to the Nadder Valley and surrounding countryside.

New Wardour Castle is one of Britain’s most acclaimed Georgian houses and was created by

considered the finest work of the great Palladian architect James Paine.

Commissioned by the 8th Lord Arundell in 1770, in celebration of his marriage to a Lincolnshire heiress and the reunification of two branches of the family, the property replaced Old Wardour Castle as the family seat and continued a architectural tradition dating from the estate’s record in the Domesday book.

It was initially converted in 2000 under the supervision of architect John Pawson.

Lindsay Cuthill, of Savills country department, said: “This property has to contain the finest rooms of any stately home in the country; it is a wonderful opportunity to own a beautiful piece of history.”

The apartment is being marketed by Savills for a guide price of £3,950,000.
