A HAND grenade believed to be from the Second World War was pulled out of a river in Salisbury yesterday.
At around 5.15pm police officers were called to the New Bridge Road area following the discovery of the grenade, and EOD specialists "carried out a small, controlled explosion at 7pm".
The item was found by a man magnet fishing.
As previously reported the site was closed to the public, with road closures including Churchill Way South, between College Roundabout and Exeter Street Roundabout, and New Bridge Road, in both directions between Exeter Street and New Bridge roundabouts.
During this time heavy traffic surrounded the area.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "The grenade was fished out of the river by a member of the public magnet fishing.
"The EOD arrived and carried out a small, controlled explosion at 7pm and the cordon was lifted soon after that."
