LANE closures will be in place on the A303 by Countess Roundabout for almost four weeks.

It comes as the next phase of investigation work for Highways England’s proposed A303 upgrade past Stonehenge.

Drivers have been warned to allow extra time for their journeys during weekdays - starting on September 14.

Highways England say the lane closures are in place to ensure the safety of the workforce carrying the ground investigation surveys on its behalf.

Work includes drilling boreholes, and digging trial pits.

The lane closures will avoid the busy weekend periods, coming into place at 10am on Mondays and removed by 6am on Fridays.

The work is planned to finish on Friday, October 9.

Highways England said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause for local residents, businesses and the travelling public, and we would like to thank people for their patience.

"The works are part of an ongoing programme to comprehensively understand ground conditions along the route of the proposed scheme.

"This further work is important to ensure information is up to date, which can be shared with companies bidding to build the scheme, should it get the green light from government in November. "
