GET creative and connect with Salisbury Museum this autumn with a new video project.

The project brings artists and museum collections together through activities people can do at home.

Over the last few months, while The Salisbury Museum and The Wiltshire Museum have been closed, their community curator, Sarah Gregson, has been staying connected with community groups across the county on zoom and creating video resources.

She said: “It’s been a fascinating process so far, connecting with artists, objects from both museums’ fabulous collections and people from our communities. Our first few videos have been really well received and audiences have just started sharing images of the work they have created at home with us. It feels wonderful to be in a creative dialogue with people … out there.”

She has also been building new relationships with local freelance artists.

As a result the museums have created a project called Museum Connect, funded by the Wessex Museums Partnership, in which local artists are inspired by objects in the museum collections to create new work and demonstrate activities that anyone can do at home.

Each video is tailored to a particular audience such as local families or people living in a care setting, but they will be available to everyone via the museums’ websites and You Tube channels.

There will be six videos created for each museum between now and November 2020 and they will work as an accompaniment to a visit to the newly reopened museums, or as a standalone activity.

Examples of the range of content include a project, which has been inspired by the Salisbury-made Scout Car (1912).

The videos are also a chance to see artists at work in their own home studios.

Artists involved included Matthew Dean, Jane Scott, Emma Kerr, Sue Martin, Rachel Heard and James Aldridge. They have designed the activities around materials people have readily available in the home.
