A MAN with a very unusual hobby is asking for help from local residents to complete a Lord of the Rings-style map of Wiltshire.

Chris Birse has been designing fantasy-style maps of English counties for around two years.

He said: "Two years ago I was writing a fantasy novel and I just needed a map created for the first page inside but I couldn't afford to get someone to do it for me so I did one myself and it went from there."

The 33-year-old Aldi manager from Teesside created a map of his home county to start with.

After receiving positive feedback, he's gone on to make maps of other counties such as Dorset and Somerset and he's now halfway through completing one of Wiltshire.

"All the interest I'm getting from it it's what's keeping me going," he added.

However, to make the map the best it can be, Chris is asking local residents to help him identify hidden gems such as standing stones, barrows or caves that they would like to see featured.

He's been asking people to get in touch via his Facebook page, Fantasy World Maps, to let him know of places worth including.

"If I didn't get feedback from the public I would just be going on Google and finding places like Stonehenge that everybody knows about. I wouldn't get that level of detail that I want so every suggestion is appreciated." Once the map is finished, prints will be available to purchase.
