A WOMAN has died in a house fire in a Dorset village.

The fire broke out just before midnight on Wednesday at a terraced property in General Wolfe Close, Iwerne Courtney, near Blandford.

Firefighters were called to the scene but the woman, believed to be in her 60s, was pronounced dead.

Police say the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Forensics officers were at the house gathering evidence yesterday.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 11.50pm on Wednesday, September 9, by the fire service to reports of a fire at an address in General Wolfe Close in Shroton, Iwerne Courtney, north of Blandford.

"Very sadly a woman aged in her 60s, who had been rescued from the address, died at the scene.

"Her family has been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this very sad time.

"The coroner has been notified.

"A cordon was put in place to allow for emergency services to carry out an examination of the scene.

"Two men from the local area who were arrested in connection with the incident have been released from custody without charge.

"Following a post-mortem examination and early investigations, the death is not being treated as suspicious and enquiries are underway on behalf of the coroner."
