Joseph Bridgeman, 21, of Chestnut Avenue, Tidworth, has also been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place - it is said he had a kitchen knife - after the incident in Royal Wootton Bassett.

He is due to appear before Swindon Magistrates’ Court this morning via police station video link.

The stabbing in Rylands Way, Royal Wootton Bassett, on Thursday lunchtime left a man in his 50s fighting for his life.

A second man arrested in the wake of the stabbing has been released on police bail, Wiltshire Police said.
